Originally titled “Rules, Policy and Organisation”, it soon became known simply as POR. It was a card-covered booklet which listed the structure, premise and rules of the whole organisation in a readable format, gathering together all the information which had appeared piecemeal in the handbooks and official magazines. It was split into numbered sections with subsections, and illustrated with relevant line-drawing diagrams.
In each edition, any rules which had changed since the previous edition were indicated by a black vertical line in the margin beside the altered text, making it easy for any Guider to spot where a change had been made, and check what the implications of the alteration were.
I have managed to collect a number of editions, and whilst I would not normally have shared them, due to the difficulty in accessing archives, I hope to share the older editions of these here to allow people to access them for reference purposes. For those who do opt to browse these, I would add a warning – that terminology used in them was current in it’s time, but may cause offence today, particularly in reference to disability. Equally, first aid and rescue techniques should be viewed with historical reference only, not used in modern practice.
I hope that people will find these documents useful for reference purposes.
